Lots of changes this Spring: Part 4 - West Bed

So I have documented and posted the beds as you would come upon them from the driveway of the house.  We live on a cul-de-sac corner, and we have a side load garage (which is why people would come into the backyard from the driveway).
This bed, which I will now call The West Bed, is up against the back of my house.  Very little of it can be seen from inside.  It faces East and gets a lot of sun after mid morning.  By early evening it is in the shade again.  I classify this as full sun because it gets the strongest sunlight of the day.

(please ignore the hose)

We had to add a lot of dirt to correct the negative grade.  We ran into a problem because the dirt needed to be higher than the window wells.  Ugh - it was so frustrating!!  Lowes, Menards, online - no one had answers for us.  it seemed they were confused, or if they had product, it was the wrong size. We ended up buying a $17.00 short window well from a metal place in town.  We cut it in half then dug down a bit then put it up against the window well then pushed a bunch of dirt around it to hold it in place.  We've had 4 major storms (and smaller rains) since and it's been perfect!!

I saw these last year for the first time and was so excited to have a spot for one.  Actually I have spots for way more than one, but lets see how this Hydrangea tree works out first!!!

East This wall is so long and boring and all my plantings are still so small, I had to add something.  I shoved one of my shepherd's hooks in the ground, then planted Impatiens 'Punch'.  Then I cut off all the blooms (to make them denser….I talked about this in earlier post).  So far, the idea hasn't done much good!

I'm really not sure if I have these in a good spot.  These pink foam flowers (that are much like astibles) are supposed to be sun/shade - but I think they need more shade than they get here.  Their height and spreading habit made them a perfect fit.  We will sill what happens when the season heats up.

I like this Beard-Tongue.  I bought a few of these last year and they came back this Spring with vigor!  I hope they will grow together by next Spring.  I don't know why they are called 'Husker Red.' there is nothing RED about them - green leaves, dark brown stems and white flowers…...

At the bottom middle of the the photo is my Blackberry Iris.  This was a save from my old house that originally came from Cora's garden a few years ago.  This is a cool plant and sticking flower.

This is Sedum which came from Barb's Garden this year.  I have more in the shade bed.  I'm pretty sure it will bloom late summer or fall - but we will see.

Clematis 'Ernest Markham'
Clematis 'Ernest Markham'
I added another Clematis here. I knew I wanted RED, just because the wall is so  big and ….tan.  Red would be a bold contract and help break it up.  There are several varieties and I wanted the largest flower.  I  was thinking that would be Nirobe, but I read if it has any shade then the flower is more burgundy.  At the risk of not having a true red, I went with a the smaller flower of 'Ernest Markham.'  When I bought the other Clematis flowers, I bought 2 of them and put them next to each other, I only bought 1 of these.  I  don't think I will see any blooms this year.

This greenery came from the old house.  It has never bloomed.  I have no idea what it is.  I don't even know if I want it!!

Fianlly - the anchor plant to this bed (is it okay that it's on the end?)  - My Ninebark.  It's grown much taller since I planted it a month ago and the colors change from deep burgundy to light rust.  It's bent forward a little because of the wind that comes around the side of the house (i think).  I'm trusting this one to be one of my specimens summer through fall.
