Mailbox Makeover

June 2013

With everything needing attention, I thought I could get a lot of satisfaction from a bed under the mailbox.  There were no flowers any where - except some Stella-doras that are hidden under overgrown evergreens.  I wanted something simple, but something that would give me, and the people driving by, a punch of color.  To be deeply honest, I also wanted to show the neighbors that we were here and will work to make this house look good!!!  The outside has been maintained but NEVER loved.

I would love to have that whole strip of grass in bright flowers…but I must be patient.  Hubby agreed to create a bed with some edging that we found around the house.  The hardest part is ripping out the sod.  My mom and I went shopping and picked out the colors.  Orange and Purple.  The 3 pots are Rudbeckia -Black-eyed susans.  Hopefully they will fill in to make a circle around the mailbox.

Making a bed

We staked out where the center of the holes will be for the flowers.  I was very proud of myself for remembering to leave the back of the mailbox empty to give us foot space to get the mail.  It's a simple idea, but I do get carried away with the visions of summer blooms!

I sent Hubby out get mulch and he came back with giant mulch shavings.  Neither of us were happy with it - but we used it anyway to call the project done.   It feels so good to start and finish a project in one day.  The morning after I always venture out with my coffee cup and admire our work. I'm eager to see it all fill in.
