I think this is beautiful! Cora gave me a bunch of little starts early this spring. When I say little, I mean they were itty-bitty. The leaves might have been 2-3 inches tall. Even that small, Cora knew exactly what it was. I'm always impressed the way she knows her garden!! Anyway....I didn't think this one was going to make it, becuase there have been days when it looked to be on it's last ounce of nutrition. I put it in the corner of the deck bed where it gets the most sun. The leaves are like any other lily, but mine fall over. I've read up on it, and only a few people mention staking "the larger stalks." If they were standing, I'd say they would be 3-4 ft high. They do spread. This one might be invasive, but right now, I'm going to let it run. It started blooming in July.
It's nice how the flower is proportionate in size compared to the plant. I was thinking it was going to be another Toad Lily...a lot of stem but a teeny flower (bring in the Zoom lenz).
You can see a little how it wants to fall over. I staked all of the big ones last week, but I was worried I'd stunt their growth. I guess it was a free plant, and if I kill it, I can go back for more.
