These pics are from a few years ago from my 4th St backyard. This was my first Hydrangea. It's the Endless Summer variety. It's never bloomed endlessly ALL summer, but it has given me a forever appreciation for hydrangeas. This was very pink the first year of blooms, but over time began to turn purple. I was putting coffee grounds all around to keep the slugs away from the neighboring hosts, heucheras and astilbes. Maybe it was too acidic to remain pink.
Maybe I like the purple even better.

Notice how the flowers are more white and less pink than the year before….

Now they have more of a violet color . This is the same shrub!

Back up a few steps and this is when things start to work together for my joy. The picture is not good at all, but hopefully you get enough of the idea.
